We collect only what we need to respond to you, run our programmes and keep the Uruti Hub community connected. We never sell your personal data, and nothing about you is published without your consent.
Who we are
Uruti Hub Ltd (“Uruti Hub”, “we”) is a technology and innovation company based at KK 559 St, Kicukiro District, Kigali, Rwanda. We are responsible for the personal data collected through this website.
What we collect
- When you contact us
- Your name, email, and optionally your phone number and organization, plus the enquiry type, subject and message you write.
- When you create an account
- Your name, email and password. We store only a scrambled (hashed) version of your password and can never see it.
- When you register or update your profile
- What you choose to tell us: programme, track, cohort and dates, phone, current job and organization, a short biography, a LinkedIn link, a photo, and any message. We also record your consent choices.
- Records our team keeps
- Your status in our community (for example active or alumni), badges our team awards you and the reason for each, and internal notes needed to support you.
- Technical data
- Our servers process your IP address to protect the site against abuse (for example limiting repeated sign-in attempts). Counters used for this store only a scrambled form of your email or IP address.
How we use it
- To reply to your enquiry and provide the services you ask about.
- To run our programmes: reviewing registrations, keeping our community records up to date and recognising progress with badges.
- To send you account emails: activation, password resets, decisions on your submissions and badge notifications.
- To keep the site and your account secure.
We use your data because you asked us to (for example by sending a message or registering), because you gave consent (for example to be featured on the Alumni page), or because we need it to operate securely.
What can be public
Only if you are an alumnus, you ask to be featured, and our team approves, these appear on the Uruti Alumni page: your name, photo, current role and organization, programme, track and cohort, biography, LinkedIn link and badges. Your email, phone number, the reasons for your badges and our internal notes are never published. You can remove your profile from the Alumni page at any time from your account.
Who we share it with
We do not sell or rent your personal data. Only authorised Uruti Hub staff can see it. We use a small number of service providers to run the website, such as our hosting provider and Google (Gmail) to deliver our emails; they process data only on our behalf. We may disclose information if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
- Accounts never activated are deleted after 14 days.
- Registrations and updates are deleted 180 days after our team decides on them; approved details live on in your community record.
- Messages marked as spam are deleted after 30 days.
- Sign-in sessions expire after 14 days (8 hours for staff); activation links after 48 hours and password-reset links after 1 hour.
- Your community record and account are kept while you are part of the Uruti Hub community, until you or we delete them.
Cookies
We use only essential cookies: one keeps you signed in to your account (and one for staff signed in to our admin). We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not use third-party analytics.
How we protect it
Passwords are stored hashed, sign-in is rate-limited, one-time links are stored only in scrambled form, and photos you send are checked before they are accepted. Unpublished photos are visible only to our staff. Every staff action on your record is logged.
Your choices and rights
- See and correct your data: view your profile and submissions in your account, and send an update whenever something changes.
- Withdraw consent: remove yourself from the Alumni page instantly from your account.
- Delete everything: delete your account, submissions, photo and community record yourself from your account, or ask us to.
- Ask a question or object: contact us using the details below; we will respond as soon as we can.
